Tower Place is a Landmark building providing seven floors above ground. Construction was completed in 2002 as part of the renewal of the area around the Tower of London, providing high quality office space as well as an open publicly accessible plaza. The original equipment consisted of original Otis lifts. MKM were awarded the project following a tender for a full modernisation of the four and five-car group passenger lifts, six fireman’s lifts and two goods lifts.
Our challenge was to carry out a full modernisation to all lifts while a full internal office space refurbishment was being carried out by other contractors. We replaced the equipment to a tight programme to meet the demands for the building to be re-occupied from multiple sites.
A good relationship with building management had already been forged through the service provision prior to the project works. We involved equipment manufacturers at tender stage so the mobilisation upon award was quick and easy. Progress meetings with the client, project managers, both lift consultancies and main contractor began shortly after award and well before site works starting. This allowed advanced planning and discussion which in turn allowed works on site to begin and progress as smoothly as possible while integrating with the other contractors.
